Under The Kitchen Sink

There are some parts of our home that seem to be harder to keep organised than others. Under our Kitchen Sink is one of them!  We had a bit of a makeover this time last year but after a year of living and using it is was shambles!

So what I have learnt….

1. Limit the number of cleaning products.

It is easy to get overwhelmed by a miscellaneous assortment of products.  I have 4 every day sprays (on the top shelf) with a fifth occasional wood polish.  From Left to Right – Dishwashing Liquid, Daily Granite, All Purpose and Daily Wood. Naturally they are all Method products.

Daily Granite –  for our black granite bench tops. Never have they been left so sparkly clean without any residue! If you are anything like me you clean your kitchen bench about 10 times a day!

All Purpose – I use this for the stove top, appliances and cupboards.  It is an oil and grime fighter! This one is a new “flavour” and smells incredible!

Daily Wood – For our dining room tables.  We have a small breakfast table and then a lunch and dinner table that get a good work out!

Dishwashing Liquid- In a handy pump bottle as you can see we love it!  I hand wash lunchboxes, tupperware and kids plastics.

2. Get rid of packaging and replace with reusable storage.

I take all the dishwashing tablets out of their packaging and empty them into this tin.  We use Method “Smarty Dish” tablets. It keeps them out of sight of little eyes and means I can declutter 3 packets into one tin.  Great for buying in bulk.

3. Containerise.

I use some small plastic baskets from Kmart to hold all of our cloths and occasional use items like gumption, leather cleaner etc.  I also use one for our “wipes”

4. Keep the items you use daily at arms reach.

This helps to ensure they are easy to put back into the right place! The ones you only use occasionally can go on the bottom or at the back and if you havent used it in the last 6 months THROW IT OUT!

So you too can throw out the rest of your cleaning supplies!

Review, Rave and Giveaway – MediBuddy

Between “My Pigeon Pair” we have had bumps, scrapes, bites and even a broken leg!
But worse still, is that all of these “accidents” have occurred whilst we have been out and about,
with the First Aid kit (that is now so organised) at home!

 Lauren at “Handmade by Lauren” has introduced me to a great little travel first aid product!
The “medibuddy” is an all in one travel first aid kit designed especially with kids in mind!
The handy little plastic container is sturdy and wipeable, easy enough for adults to open but hard enough for little hands to steer clear.  I love that they have really thought about the needs of kids.  The colourful bandaids would be a great to distract a crying child, with the cute little stickers included to cheer them up.  As every mother knows having wipes on hand is a must and the kit also includes soap cleansing wipes.
For me, this little kit is just perfect for my handbag.  But you could use it in the car, nappy bag, for airplane travel, or in the bottom of the pram! I have added some adult bandaids and Panadol to the “medibuddy” for Mummy Emergencies!  This is definitely a clever, child focused, practical product that is definitely worth its very affordable $12.95 price tag!

The Medi Buddy contains
* red, blue and yellow novelty crayon bandages (15)
* knee/elbow bandage (1)
* aloe vera packet (1)
* gauze pads (6)
* soap cleansing wipes (4)
* fun stickers (12)
* carry-anywhere case (1)
RRP $12.95

You can buy this Mummy must have

One Clever Chic – Owly Molly Print

Remember this sweet little birdie?

Owly Molly Print

This was a gorgeous “Owly Molly Print” designed especially for Little Miss A’s 1st Birthday.
It now takes pride of place in her bedroom.
I just love the vintage, shabby chic feel of the design!

Owly Molly Print is the creation of Sydney based graphic designer, Rosalin Kristiani.
Specialising in divine wall art for children, it is so lovely to find items in the home decor market that are unique, stylish and modern with not a Disney character in sight!

With a passion for graphic design and logos, Rosalin opened Owly Molly after finding it difficult to source unique wall art for her children.
“The only things available in the market were the vinyl wall art stickers, wooden names and a small  range of  canvas art. So, I designed a few prints, printed and framed them and Owly Molly was born!”

Barely open a year this Facebook business has gone ahead at lightening speed!  Owly Molly not only create personalised wall art but also specialise in logos and have a massive range of individualised gorgeous invitations.  This Mum of 2 (Clarissa,4 and Nathan 2) loves the fact that “Owly Molly” allows her to work from home and be with her kids.

“I spend some of my time in the study, working with my Adobe Illustrator, whilst the kids are busy at their own table and chairs.  But like all Mum’s I also have to find time sto cook, go to the playground, play with the kids and do the housework!”

This successful mummy business has long been a supporter of “My Pigeon Pair” and we can’t wait to continue to watch this clever and cute business bloom.

But wait there’s more…….

Fashion Finds Friday – Vintage Kid

Vintage Kid Bib and Pants

I have often thought that I was born in the wrong era.  The fashion of the bygone days of roses, frills, and cutesy patterned fabric has so hastily been replaced by licensed “cartoon and movie” products that lack individuality and innocence.  Whilst searching for some “vintage” fabric outfits for my pigeon pair, I unearthed a treasure trove of goodies at “Vintage Kid”.  These gorgeous fabrics are reminiscent of a time when boys played cowboys and indians and not Buzz Light Year vs Ben Ten.  Roses and ice creams for our little pink pretties, which now at most department stores, you will struggle to find, amidst the Hannah Montanna and Hello Kitty.

Boys Apron
Girls Apron and Ruffle Pant

 Owner of Vintage Kids, Bernice is a mother of 2 kids (Eli 4 and Eva 2). Bernice and her husband  Sean are both educators. He still works full time and Bernice (who was an Early Childhood teacher!) is fortunate enough to stay at home and follow another passion of hers Children’s clothing!

After searching for unique products for her own children (sound familiar!) she stumbled upon Vintage Kid.

“Vintage Kid was actually started in 2006 and we bought the business in 2008 after starting our own online boutiquewww.thebeeskneeskids.com.au. I wanted to stock Vintage Kid products as I just loved how different and unique everything was. At that stage Vintage Kid mostly stocked hats, nappy covers, bibs and 2 styles of dresses. I have really enjoyed growing and expanding the range to include many more gorgeous designs in fabrics. We have also expanded our range of dresses have now included pajamas, library bags, long ruffle pants and so much more!”

Ruffle Pants

Vintage Kid and The Bees Knees Kids are located in the Northern Suburbs of Perth where Bernice operates the business from their family home. ” I have our games room set up as our stock room. I manage everything from the selections of fabrics and trims, labels to marketing, promotions, sales, customer service, postage everything even maintaining our Facebook pages!”

A creative Mum, Bernice loves to be involved in the design process, especially shopping for new fabrics and viewing the completed products.

“I really like our Long Ruffle Pants and Swing tops. My daughter has so many of these as they mix and match so well, as well as attracting many compliments about how great they look!  Our pyjamas are a newer product that have just passed through all the Australian and New Zealand safety testing.  My kids love their pyjamas!”

Winter Pyjamas

So what does a typical day look like for this clever Mum?

“Busy!! Usually I am multitasking as any other Mum with school runs, washing, cleaning and running 2 businesses from home. Some days it can be a real juggling act trying to fit everything in especially when we get lots of wholesale orders as well as retail orders that need to go out the same day! We also offer exceptional service.   The great customer service we expect to recieve ourselves, which is really lacking these days!”

So what does the future hold for Vintage Kids?

We would like to expand our range to include manchester and bedding so that is something to look foward to in the near future!

Vintage Kids is stocked in store and online throughout Australia and even in South Africa!  For stockists visit

Milk bottles is an online children’s boutique showcasing the very best of fashion, decor, homewares, gifts and acessories

It is a pleasure to welcome Jenna and Milk bottles to the “My Pigeon Pair” flock.

So why does “My Pigeon Pair” LOVE milk bottles?
I love shopping. Unfortunately as a mother of two extremely adventurous children, shopping in store has lost its lustre.  SO I have turned to online shopping.  How great is it to browse, in the peace and quiet, with a coffee and no one pulling at your skirt!

Milk bottles has it all.
I initally stumbled accross milk bottles whilst searching for a bean bag chair for Master O.
I found the chair AND a gorgeous bloomer and tank set, the groovy gripper and Tilly and Otto (it was along night of oohing and ahhing)
I was instantly in love with their eclectic range of unique fashion, homewares, accessories and gifts.
Many products are handmade, all are high quality, but what really had me sold was the number of Australian created, Mummy designed products!  (and the great postage rates!)

milk bottles was originally started by Jenna’s sister and was a site selling second hand designer clothes.  Jenna was looking for a way to have a career and be with her two boys (now aged 2 and 3) so when her sister decided to leave milkbottles for a new venture it was a match made in Mummy heaven!

So straight from Jenna herself…
Do you have a favourite milkbottles product?
Everything on milk bottles I personally pick.  I only stock products that I LOVE. So all of milk bottles products are my favourites! If I really had to pick it would be the teepees.  They are such a classic play piece and have endless imaginative play possibilities! I love that they are bringing back old style play so kids are not  sitting in front of a computer.
What do you love about having your own business?
The freedom of being able to put my family first.  My work can be adapted around my family.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My days are mainly spent packing orders,  updating the website, post office runs, and dancing around the house with my boys!
Most of my computer work is done at night time once the kids are settled in bed and asleep, but most nights you’ll still find me on the computer at midnight browsing madeit.com, esty and the internet for new items to stock. It’s my form of shopping and its very addictive as most mums would know!
